Centuries-old reputation
In 1820 the distant grandfathers of the current business owners opened the doors of their small village smithy in Ooigem. The business grew and in 1880 it moved to Oostrozebeeksestraat. Their principal activities were as smithy and builder of innovative agricultural tools.

Flax as growth catalyst
Attention shifted from agricultural machine production to solutions for the industrialised flax harvest. The business grew visibly thanks to its effective response to the changing demands of the sector. After another move to Wielsbeeksestraat, Desmet and Sons set up the silo and machine construction for the emerging plastics, textile and cardboard industry.
The electronic revolution
In 1983 the arrival of the computer heralded a total transformation in the business approach. The service operated faster than ever. And even the most demanding client was provided with a top-notch solution for any problem presented. As well as machine construction there was more and more emphasis on the distribution of industrial items. Desmet Engineering became the supplier for industrialists and SME s in the region. With the resources and capacity for small or large deliveries.
